The proposed research will generate excellent linkages among the research team, FRP manufacturers, fibre optic sensor and monitoring devices manufacturer, practising design engineers, and construction professionals. It is a significant step towards the goal of establishing credible design methods and durability database for the FRP structures. Furthermore, the outcome of this research will help to fulfil that gap between the existing knowledge about the effectiveness and durability of FRP structures and the concerns of the practising design engineers. Well-defined design guidelines and reliable prediction model for cost-effectiveness and durability will increase the confidence of the designers and end-users in FRP materials to be used for construction involving concrete. To publicise the effectiveness of FRP materials as a corrosion-free reinforcing media for concrete and to familiarise the construction industry personnel with this new FRP reinforcement technology, several workshops and seminars will be organised for professional engineers, end-users, contractors and design consultants (for more details on the conferences, short courses, and seminars that have already/will be organized by the research group, see the attached 48-month progress report). These awareness campaigns are aimed to help technology transfer and use of FRP materials in civil infrastructures.
